I started painting and drawing in 2000, and ever since have chased the illusive balance between artist, mom, wife, business owner and friend. Often this has meant that “time to paint” has happened in the wee hours of the morning when all is dark and still. I think this has something to do with the shadow around the edges of much of my work. That and I just think it looks cool.
I love animals and nature and am easily inspired by the raw beauty and complexity of the natural world. Colour is another thing that excites me and draws me to the canvas but I can just as easily get lost in a million shades of gray. I am intrigued by how composition can elicit an emotional response and seek to use it in creating a sense of weight and volume that makes you want to reach out and touch the subject. I am inspired by outsider art and feel a kinship with it’s passionate and wacky self taught artists because it speaks to a trickster part in me that hates taking anything too seriously.

I owe a grateful debt to Phil Sylvester of “The Drawing Studio” and thank my lucky stars that his was the first art class I stumbled into. William Park and Alexander Rokoff have taught me much and strongly influenced me as well.
